Eagles
(8-1, 8-1 GLIAC)
     Over the last two games, AU has scored 125 points and rolled up 1,346 yards of total offense…Saturday marked the first time in school history the Eagles scored 60 or more points in two consecutive games...the Eagles have scored a school, single-season record 416 points…senior tailback Jon Schroeder (Avon Lake, OH) scored two touchdowns Saturday. He has 16 this year, one shy of the school single-season record (17 by Ray Novotny, 1929)…sophomore tailback Dawon Harvey (Columbus, OH/Central State) posted his third consecutive 100-yard game Saturday with 143 yards on 13 carries (11.0 ypc.)…the Eagles scored their first defensive touchdown of the season last week when senior linebacker Kyle Calvert (Canton, OH/Massillon Jackson) scored on a 60-yard interception return. Calvert had a team-high nine tackles, two sacks and forced a fumble…the Eagles finish the regular season 4-0 at home. This is the first time the Eagles have been perfect at home since 1997…Ashland’s seven-game winning streak is the longest since the 1997 Eagles won seven consecutive games. .

Bulldogs

     The Bulldogs registered their fourth winning season in the last five years following a hard-fought 17-13 season-ending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over Wayne State Saturday (Nov. 10) afternoon in Detroit, Mich... The Bulldogs rallied from a 13-10 deficit with 13:38 to play and recorded the game’s final score on a six-yard scoring plunge from senior quarterback C.J. Van Wieren (Holland/West Ottawa) with 5:59 left. The final score came after a 57-yard drive on nine plays... The Ferris defense was able to stop the Warriors on the ensuing drive as the Bulldogs finished the year with a 6-5 overall record... Ferris limited the Warriors’ offensive attack to only six points as WSU’s lone touchdown came on a 20-yard interception return by Stan Thornton, which gave Wayne State the lead at 13-10 with 13:38 remaining... Eleven Bulldog seniors played their final game at WSU’s Adams Field before a crowd of 2,354 fans in attendance.

Oilers

     The Oilers concluded their season with a 34-10 loss to Michigan Tech in Houghton…As a team, the Oilers could only manage 34 yards rushing in the game while their defense allowed the Huskies to churn out 218 yard on the ground…In the passing game, Findlay had a season-high 269 yards through the air… Individually the Oilers were led by a pair of freshmen in wide receiver Dustin Zielaskiewicz and quarterback Jonathan Mora… Zielaskiewicz hauled in a career-high eight receptions for a career-high 134 yards while Mora tossed for a career best 223 yards in the loss…Mora also scored Findlay’s lone touchdown, an eight yard run with 9:10 remaining in the fourth and final quarter…Senior running back Joel McDaniel ended the season with 1,062 yards rushing and eight touchdowns…He was the Oilers first 1,000 yard back since Michael Simpson during the 2004 campaign… Senior linebacker Dion Harvey had a great all-around season by leading the team with 90 tackles, 21.5 tackles for a loss and eight sacks.

Golden Knights

     Gannon completed its season at 0-11 overall and 0-10 in the GLIAC with a 62-7 loss at Ashland last Saturday … it was Gannon’s first winless season since 1989 when the school reinstated the football program … Jon Richardson (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) and Zach Boedicker (Northfield, Ohio/Nordonia) each rushed for a 100 yards … Richardson had 142 yards, topping the 140-yard mark for the third time in the last four games … Boedicker went over 100 yards for the second time this season… Gannon had gone 23 games without putting two Golden Knights over 100 rushing yards in the same game, but has now performed the feat in consecutive weeks … Alton Kenner (Buffalo, N.Y./Turner-Carroll) completed his collegiate career by leading both teams with 14 tackles, including 12 solo stops.

     Grand Valley State will be making its seventh straight NCAA DII Football Playoff appearance. The Lakers are 21-2 in their last 23 playoff games with four National Championships ... Grand Valley State will receive a first-round bye and play the winner of the North Dakota-Winona State game Nov. 24 at Lubbers Stadium...Grand Valley State captured its third straight GLIAC Championship. It marks the first time in school history that GVSU has won three straight GLIAC titles. GVSU also has a league-best 12 GLIAC/MIFC titles...Head coach Chuck Martin improved to 48-3 as a head coach at GVSU... The Lakers are 95-5 in their last 100 games with four DII Championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006)... The 2007 GVSU senior class is 48-3 with two National Championships... The Lakers are 58-2 when being ranked number one since 2002... GVSU has been ranked in the AFCA top 25 in 93 straight polls... Grand Valley State has been ranked number one in the country in 66-of-the-last-80 polls since the opening game of the 2002 season... Since 2001, the Lakers are 50-3 at home, 37-2 in their last 39 road games and 41-3 in all games away from Lubbers Stadium in their last 44... Grand Valley State is 63-3 in its last 66 GLIAC games. The Lakers have won 30 straight GLIAC games dating back to the 2004 season, tying the GLIAC record for consecutive wins, which GVSU already holds. The previous record began in 2000 with six straight GLIAC wins to end the season and went until the sixth GLIAC game of the 2003 season when the SVSU claimed a 34-20 win.

     The 2007 regular season came to an end for Hillsdale Saturday in a 24-21 home loss to Saginaw Valley State …The Chargers finished with an 8-3 record, their best since 1999…The loss was the only one at home this season for Hillsdale and the team’s first since Sept. 9, 2006…It was also the first time in more than a year Hillsdale had been held to less than 30 points in a game…The last team to do it was Findlay on Nov. 4, 2006…Hillsdale scored a school-record 432 points this season, an average of 39.3 points per game…Senior quarterback Mark Nicolet, a nominee for the Harlon Hill Trophy, finished the season with 3,335 passing yards for the season, a new school record…His 3,145 passing yards in GLIAC games set a new conference record…The previous record had stood since 1998…Junior Aaron Waldie scored 110 points this season, second-most in school history behind Nate Clark’s 144 in 1957… Waldie’s 18 receiving touchdowns are a new school record… Senior Nick Gurica led the team with 10 catches for 110 yards in the loss to SVSU, giving him a school-record 78 receptions on the season…Gurica’s 1,055 receiving yards this season are second-most in school history behind Waldie’s 2007 total of 1,139…This is the first time Hillsdale has ever had two 1,000-yard receivers on the same team in the same season…Tailback Vinnie Panizzi broke the 1,000-yard rushing barrier, and it’s the third year in a row a Hillsdale running back has hit that mark…Defensively, the Chargers were plus-12 in interception margin this season, picking off 20 passes while throwing only eight…Junior linebacker Tom Korte picked off five passes this season, giving him nine over the past two years…Senior punter Matt Vanover set a new GLIAC record with a punting average of 43.4 yards per punt this season.

Greyhounds

      The Greyhounds fell in their season finale, 45-42 in 2OT at Northwood … Junior runningback Eric Wright, with his two rushing TDs on the day, recorded 14 for the 2007 campaign, breaking Donnie McCoy’s previous record of 13 (2004) ... Wright became the eighth Greyhound to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a season, finishing the year with 1,076 yards on the ground ... Casey Gillin’s three throwing scores gave him 20 for the season, one shy of Matt Kohn’s school-record 21, set back in 2003 ... He also rushed for a career-high 53 yards in the contest, including his 10th rushing TD ... The game was the first overtime contest for UIndy since last year’s 27-20 loss at Northern Michigan in season opener ... True freshman tailback Craig Ray’s two first-half TD catches were the first of his career ... The Greyhounds demolished the school’s single-season record for points, recording 353, besting the previous record of 310, held by the 1998 squad … UIndy finished the season 6-5 overall and 5-5 in conference play for the third straight year.

     Mercyhurst’s final season in the GLIAC came to a close in a 43-37 loss to the University of Indianapolis…The Lakers lost for the second consecutive week after holding a lead of at least 17 points…Quarterback Mitch Phillis threw five touchdowns to break the Mercyhurst career record. He finishes his stellar career with 57 touchdown passes…Junior running back Richard Stokes rushed for 63 yards to break the school’s single season record. He finished with 1,177 yards on the year…Sophomore tight end Josh Szeluga caught two TD passes, giving him 10 on the season, tying the single-season record for scoring receptions…Senior Craig Moone had 18 tackles while sophomore Charlie Gleisner had a pair of interceptions…MC held Senior Day for eight Laker seniors.

Huskies

     Michigan Tech wrapped up its fourth consecutive season with a winning record — the first time the Huskies have accomplished that since 1990-93 and first time as part of a conference since 1973-76 … Steve Short (Iron Mountain, Mich.) set the school record for passing yards in a season in the third quarter of last Saturday’s (Nov. 10) game as he moved past Alex Kowalski’s total of 2,163. The sophomore finished with 140 yards today and 2,194 on the campaign … Keith White (Rhinelander, Wis.) tallied three receptions 52 yards and had several near misses on his 10th receiving touchdown of the season, which would have been a new record … Kirk Williams (DeWitt, Mich.) tallied five receptions for 40 yards. He wound up in third all-time in receptions at Michigan Tech with 136 … Marvin Atkins (Chicago, Ill./Walther Lutheran) tallied 138 yards on 19 carries vs. Findlay to finish with four 100-yard performances in the last five games … Tech’s senior class finished their four-year careers with a records of 27-14 overall, 27-12 in the GLIAC, and 16-4 at home.

Wildcats
(4-6, 4-6 GLIAC)
      NMU finished the season by going 4-2 in its last six games and ended the 2007 campaign at 4-6…The four wins is the most since 2002 when the Wildcats were 6-5…Buddy Rivera played in his final game in a NMU uniform on Saturday, he leaves the program as the all-time leader in total offense (7,781 yards) and touchdown passes (53)…Mark Bossuah rushed for 1,285 yards on the season, he is the first NNMU back to rush for over 1,200 yards since Nelson Edmonds rushed for 1,469 yards in 1991…Bossuah had five games of over 100 yards rushing in 2007, including one games of over 200 yards…Three receivers had 18 of the 20 TD passes on the season; Zach Nichols led the way with eight, Fred Wells added seven while Dan Elmore hauled in three…For the season NMU was 33-42 in the red zone…As a team, NMU rushed for 1,852 yards on the season which was the most since 2000 when the ‘Cats had 1,546 yards rushing…The average per game of total offense for the 2007 season (415.7 avg) was the most since 2003 (403.6 avg)…NMU scored 37 TDs on the season which was the most since 2002.

Timberwolves

     NU ended its 2007 season in thrilling fashion, earning a 45-42 double overtime victory over Indianapolis ... it was the first time in program history that Northwood has won an overtime game - the Timberwolves were 0-3 heading into Saturday’s game ... two of the NU’s three overtime setbacks have come in the last two seasons - against South Dakota in the opening round of the NCAA Playoffs last seasons and last week against Ferris State ... the star of the game proved to be freshman receiver Quillan Mathis (Detroit, Mich./Finney) ...he caught six passes for 129 yards and three touchdowns ... Mathis set a Northwood record this year with 13 touchdown receptions, breaking Ron Hunter’s mark of 11 from the 1998 season ... Mathis finished the season ranked second in the GLIAC in touchdown receptions ... junior kicker Chris Kollias (Farmington Hills, Mich./Harrison) connected on a 41-yard field goal in the second overtime to earn the win for the Timberwolves ... it was his first field goal of the season and was 13-yards longer than his previous longest kick ... Northwood finished the year with 21 touchdown passes, a new school record.

Cardinals
(7-3, 7-3 GLIAC)
      The Cardinals jumped on top on the game’s first offensive play when freshman Mike Meade (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) took a handoff on the reverse and scampered 73 yards for a score… Dan Stiefel (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) l found senior Ric Cottengim (Elk Grove, Calif./), who took it the distance for a 96-yard touchdown. The 96-yard reception tied Cottengim’s own school record for longest reception… Stiefel’s 443 total yards fell just ten yards shy of a school record…Stiefel tied an SVSU record with 31 completions on the day and fell just 38 yards shy of the Cardinal record for most passing yards in a game. Stiefel also scored on a 20-yard run… The Cardinal defense also provided its share of moments in the win, forcing three interceptions and totaling three sacks on the day… Saginaw Valley State now owns a 16-13 advantage in the all-time series with Hillsdale and have won six straight over the Chargers.

Warriors

     Freshman cornerback Stan Thornton (Cincinnati, Ohio/Withrow) returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter giving WSU a 20-13 lead ... it was the first interception return for a score by a Warrior since Leo Wells returned a pick 91 yards for six points on Oct. 15, 2005, against Findlay ... it was also Thornton’s third interception of the game, the first three pick performance by a WSU player since Earl Carruthers had three interceptions in a win at Ashland on Oct. 4, 2003 ... with seven kicking points David Chudzinski (Belleville, Mich.) tied the WSU all-time scoring record for a kickers with Matt Fishburn (1994-97) at 158 points ... junior Dante Dunn (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) had 22 kickoff returns for 600 yards for an average of 27.27, the highest return average in school history for a season for anyone with at least 11 kickoff returns ... sophomore running back Joique Bell (Benton Harbor, Mich.) rushed for 1,427 yards in 2007, the third-highest single-season mark in school history on 289 attempts, the fourth-best mark all-time for a year at WSU.
