Eagles
  The Eagles lost a pair of games last week at Mercyhurst and at Gannon, respectively. Senior guard Brett Bartlett (LaGrange, OH/Kent State) is ninth in the country in assist-turnover ratio. Bartlett had his second 30-point game of the season last Thursday at Mercyhurst. He scored 31 points against the Lakers. Earlier this season at Hillsdale Bartlett scored a career-high 32 points. Junior guard Bret Wackerly (Canton, OH/Canisius) scored 33 or more points in three consecutive games before finishing with 16 points at Mercyhurst. The last AU player to string together three straight 30-point performances was Bill Higgins in 1973-74. Higgins also scored 30 or more points in five straight games during the 1972-73 season…over his last three games, redshirt freshman center Kale Richardson (Carroll, OH/Bloom-Carroll) has averaged 10.7 rpg. Richardson snared a career-high 15 boards at Mercyhurst…Bartlett is shooting 87.5 percent (42-of-48) at the free throw line. The Ashland single-season record of 88.9 percent belongs to Lance Kimmel (1985-86).

Bulldogs
  Freshman forward/center Justin Keenan (Grand Rapids/Ottawa Hills) helped the Bulldogs to a league split last week as he netted 35 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. The 6-6 Keenan had a career-high 27 points and added six boards as the Bulldogs beat Wayne State 79-71 Wednesday (Jan. 9). He totaled eight points and two boards in Saturday’s (Jan. 12) loss at nationally second-ranked archrival Grand Valley State. Keenan averaged 17.5 points in the two contests and connected on 11-of-18 (.611) of his field goal attempts in addition to making 13-of-14 (.929) free throws. The Bulldogs top six scoring leaders this campaign are all in their freshman seasons with Justin Keenan leading the team in both scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounding (7.9 rpg) to date. FSUposted 10 blocked shots in last Wednesday’s (Jan. 9)79-71 home win over Wayne State, which was one shy of tying the school record of 11 set at Grand Valley State in 2001 (1/22). .

Oilers
  The Oilers split their trip to Erie, Pennsylvania last week…Findlay fell 65-61 to Gannon and then defeated Mercyhurst 71-42…The split gives head coach Ron Niekamp 499 career wins with the Oilers…Findlay had an eight point lead at the break in their loss to Gannon…Their three GLIAC losses already are the most since they had four during the 2003-04 campaign…Junior forward Morgan Lewis averaged 17.0 points per game in the two contests…In the loss to Gannon, junior forward Lee Roberts had 18 points…In the win over Mercyhurst, Lewis tallied 21 points while junior forward Josh Bostic chipped in 18…The Oilers have the second highest winning percentage at .810 this decade…They have won 187 games and lost only 44 since 2000…The Oilers are currently shooting 53.0 percent from the field this season, way above pace for the school record which was set during the 2005-06 season when Findlay connected on 50.2 percent of their attempts. .

Golden Knights
  Gannon extended its winning streak to a season-high eight games with two home victories last week against ninth-ranked Findlay (66-61) and Ashland (77-68) … the Golden Knights were ranked 18th in the January 8th NABC/Division II national rankings … Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) reached the 20-point plateau for the third consecutive game with 21 points, nine blocks, and seven rebounds against Findlay … Goldcamp recorded all nine blocks in the second half as Gannon rallied from a 30-22 halftime deficit … Vince Mosley (Boynton Beach, Fla./Dillard) scored a season-high 25 points against Ashland after Findlay held him out of double digits for the first time this season … Joe Lindsey (Spring Valley, N.Y./Spring Valley) posted season-highs in points (22) and three-pointers (6) against Ashland, which used a sagging zone defense to stop Goldcamp … Gannon has not been out-rebounded in 16 consecutive games dating back to last season … the Golden Knights have won three consecutive games against Mercyhurst, Findlay, and Ashland while trailing at halftime of each game.

Lakers
   Grand Valley State has won 18 straight games, the most for the Lakers as a Division II member in school history. GVSU has held 12-of-its-last-16 foes under 55 points, including six under 50 points...Grand Valley State ranked second in the country in scoring defense (54.8 ppg), fourth in field goal percentage (57.7) and seventh in field goal percentage defense (37.7)...The GVSU senior class is 92-19...Senior guard Jason Jamerson moved into seventh on the GVSU all-time scoring list with 1,443 points. Jamerson needs six points to move into the sixth spot...Senior center Callistus Eziukwu is currently 11th on the all-time DII list for blocked shots with 278. Eziukwu needs six blocked shots to tie Kerwin Thompson of Eckerd (284) for 10th all-time...Eziukwu notched his fourth double-double of the year versus Ferris State with 20 points and 10 rebounds..

Chargers
   The Chargers were victorious in their only game last week with a 99-81 win over Lake Superior State…It was the sixth time this season Hillsdale has scored 90 or more points in a game this season…Tim Homan and Tony Gugino remain the top scoring duo in the GLIAC, averaging a combined 39.3 points per game…Those two players have accumulated three GLIAC South Player of the Week honors this season…Last year, Hillsdale’s men’s team had zero Players of the Week honors…Homan moved into 20th place on Hillsdale’s career scoring list on Thursday…Hillsdale had been 8-5 after 13 games in three of the past four seasons, but had lost the 14th game in those three seasons, unlike this year when the team won the 14th game…The Chargers have allowed 78 or more points in their last six straight games, but the team is 4-2 in those games…This week, Hillsdale makes its first two-game Upper Peninsula road trip since 2005-06, when it will face Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan next Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Lakers
  Junior center Ryan Kuhl (Rochester, Mich.) scored a season-high 22 points during last Thursday’s 99-81 loss at Hillsdale. Kuhl, who earned All-GLIAC First Team honors in 2006-07, averaged 18.5 points and 7.0 rebounds during last week’s two games. He shot 59.2 percent from the field (16-of-27)…Kuhl has been steadilymoving up the GLIAC statistical chart since recovering from a pre-season knee injury. He is ranked 22nd in the league in scoring (13.1 ppg), 12th in rebounding (6.2), 15th in field-goal percentage (.514) and sixth in blocked shots (1.15 bspg)…The Chargers shot 60.7 percent from the field, which is the highest percentage allowed by a Laker opponent this season….Redshirt freshman Matt Romatz (Pickford, Mich.), who averages 3.8 ppg, scored a season-high 11 points against Hillsdale…Sophomore guard Scott Perkins (Perrysburg, Ohio) is ranked sixth in the GLIAC in assists (3.62 apg), 10th in free-throw percentage (.788), 12th in average three-point field goals per game (2.08) and 10th in assist-turnover ratio (1.00).

Lakers

  The Lakers earned one conference win and lost another during the week, bringing their season mark to 8-8 overall and their conference record to 2-4. Against Gannon, the Lakers hoisted 38 3-pointers, setting a new school record for threes attempted in a game. The Lakers made 13, marking the fifth time this season that they had made at least 10 threes in a game. Also against Ashland, the Lakers received career outings from several players, including point guard Brian McTear. He recorded his first career double-double and set new career highs in points (20), assists (10) and rebounds (7). Ryann Bradford also turned in a career performance, scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds. He followed that up with eight points and seven boards against No. 9 Findlay. Bradford entered the week averaging 1.5 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. But against Ashland and Findlay, he averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds. Terry Smith and T.J. Mathis scored double figures in both games. Smith has now scored double figures in 11-straight games and in all but one game this year. Mathis has scored in double figures seven-straight times. With the win over Ashland, Gary Manchel earned his 200th career victory. He has a career record of 200-184. He has 69 victories at Mercyhurst..

Huskies
The Huskies are 3-1 at the SDC Gym this season … Junior Robby Springborn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) notched a career-high 31 points at Northwood last Thursday (Jan. 10) as Tech won, 74-64, in overtime. The 5-11 guard made9-of-19 field goals and 11-of-13 free throws en route to the first 30-point game by a Husky since Radayl Richardson tallied 31 vs. Lake Superior State on Feb. 10, 2007. Springborn added 11 more points at Saginaw Valley State last Saturday. He is now averaging 12.1 points per contest … Senior Tim Strom (Marquette, Mich.) missed Thursday’s game with injury but returned to score 11 points Saturday at Saginaw Valley State. The 6-7 forward has scored 978 points in his career … Junior Fedrick Bowe (Freeport, Bahamas) tallied his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds at Northwood.

Wildcats
  Last week the Wildcats split on its road trip as the team defeated Saginaw Valley State (73-56) and lost to Northwood (55-60)…In the first half against the Cardinals the ‘Cats shot 62.5 percent from the floor (20-32) and 46.9 percent for the game (23-49)…Tyler Kazmierkoski poured in a career-high 27 points against the Cardinals as he shot 9-13 from the floor which included 6-10 from the three-point line…Kyle Greene came off the bench for a team-high six rebounds…Jake Suardini had a career-high 23 points against the Timberwolves on Saturday…Kazmierkoski had a team-leading nine rebounds against Northwood…Suardini (15.0 ppg) and Kazmierkoski (13.3 ppg) lead the ‘Cats in points…Jerard Ajami (13.1 ppg) is the only other ‘Cat averaging over 10 points a game…Kazmierkoski (4.4 rpg) and Suardini (4.2 rpg) lead the ‘Cats on the boards…Ajami has 43 assists to pace the ‘Cats…Eric Sirrine has 12 blocks…Suardini also leads NMU with 27 steals.

Timberwolves
   Northwood split a pair of games last week, falling in overtime to Michigan Tech before downing Northern Michigan … NU is currently tied for second place in the GLIAC North Division … NU trailed the entire second half against MTU until Antonio Harrison (Southfield, Mich.) connected on a 3-pointer with less than two seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime … the Timberwolves then scored the first two points of overtime before the Huskies netted 13 of the next 15 points to earn the win … against Northern Michigan, Aaron Simpson (Detroit, Mich./U of D Jesuit) made five of the Timberwolves nine 3-pointers … Simpson finished the day with a game-high 21 points … Mark Barnes (Saginaw, Mich.) registered his sixth double-double of the season against the Wildcats, scoring 13 points while grabbing 12 rebounds … Harrison struggled from the floor against MTU, but he did finish with a NU career-high seven assists to go with just one turnover.

Cardinals
  SVSU is getting contributions from everyone during their three-game winning streak. Against Gannon, senior point guard Martell Summers (Detroit, Mich./Henry Ford HS) dished out eight assists. He also had a good day against Mercyhurst, finishing with nine assists and hitting his second three-pointer of the season. Sophomore Luke Laser (Hillsdale, Mich.) has found some offensive rhythm of late, as well. Against Gannon, he tied a season high with three long balls and finished with nine points. He hit another two against Mercyhurst and finished with a season-high 15 points. Sophomore Kevin Thornton (Canton, Mich.) has seen extended minutes lately, and is responding. He has recorded seven rebounds in each of the last two games, a season-high. In the contest against Gannon, five of his seven rebounds were offensive boards.

Wayne State University
Warriors
   Wayne State (9-5) plays seven of its final 12 regular-season games on the road starting with a U.P. trip this week where the Warriors face Michigan Tech (Thursday) and Northern Michigan (Saturday) … senior Wynn Sarden (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Cousino) had game-high scoring honors in both contests last week recording a career-high 34 points at Ferris State and followed that with 26 points … he also had 10 rebounds in both contests for his seventh and eighth double-doubles of the campaign …Sarden has eclipsed his point total of last season and needs nine rebounds to equal last year’s mark … in last Saturday’s win over LSSU, WSU had a 41-25 rebounding edge including 19 offensive rebounds for the Warriors to 18 defensive boards for the Lakers .. it was also the 100th win as a WSU coach for David Greer … Wayne State is 5-0 when scoring at least 80 points but 4-5 when held to 79 or less … the Warriors are 7-2 when allowing 69 or fewer points, and 2-3 when allowing 70 or more points … junior Lorenzo McClelland (Oak Park, Mich.) had 33 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists in the two games last week while sophomore Lendyn Davis (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) made six triples (four at Ferris State and two vs. LSSU) and scored 31 points in the two contests.
