Eagles
AU played just once last week, an 84-81 win over fourth-ranked Findlay at Kates Gymnasium. The Eagles shot 89.7 percent (26-of-29) at the free throw line and had just eight turnovers. Redshirt freshman center Kale Richardson (Carroll, OH/Bloom-Carroll) scored a career-high 28 points in the win. Richardson was 10-for-10 at the free throw line. The AU center scored 24 points in the first half. Over the first 20 minutes, AU shot 53.6 percent (15-of-28) from the floor. The Eagles led at halftime, 40-39. The last time AU had a win of this magnitude was during the 1998-99 season when the Eagles upended third-ranked Wayne State at Kates Gynasium, 82-68. The victory snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Oilers…this week, the Eagles play at Hillsdale and Wayne State. A year ago, AU was 2-0 against Hillsdale and 1-1 against the Warriors. Ashland has won the last four meetings against Hillsdale…the hope of the coaching staff is that the win against Findlay will give the Eagles a boost of confidence in close games. A year ago, Ashland was 0-4 in games decided by three points or less. Against Findlay, Ashland played well down the stretch, hitting its last 11 free throw attempts.
