Eagles
  The Eagles saw their season come to an end in the first round of the GLIAC playoffs with an 89-70 setback at Gannon. The Golden Knights were 3-0 against Ashland this season. Ahead 34-30 at halftime, the Eagles saw Gannon shoot 71 percent from the floor in the second half. Over the final 20 minutes, the Eagles were outscored, 59-36…senior guard Brett Bartlett (LaGrange, OH/Keystone) had 14 points in his final game and ends his career with 1,148 points. He’s 15th in career points at AU. Bartlett is one of two seniors on this year’s club, the other is guard Steve Gansey (Olmsted Falls, OH/Cleveland State)…this was the third consecutive year the Eagles advanced to the tournament and it is also their first losing season since the 2004-05 campaign. AU was 13-14 that season…head coach Roger Lyons has won 237 games (15 years) on the AU bench, that’s the most in school history…AU ends the year with 269 three-point field goals. That’s the second highest total in school history, trailing only last year’s total of 283. This year’s team put up 690 three-point field goal attempts and that’s also the second highest total in Ashland history…Bartlett finished the year with a free throw percentage of 88.8. The school record is 88.9, by Lance Kimmel in 1985-86.

Oilers
  The #6 Oilers advanced in the GLIAC Tournament by knocking off Mercyhurst 87-64 in Croy Gymnasium on March 1…The Oilers were led by sophomore guard Marcus Parker who scored 17 points and dished out four assists while junior center Lee Roberts added 15 points and eight rebounds…Junior forward Josh Bostic added 14 points and seven rebounds while junior forward Morgan Lewis chipped in ten points to go along with six rebounds…The Oilers are now 14-3 in the GLIAC Tournament all-time…Bostic and Lewis currently share the team lead for points per game at 13.5…On the season, the Oilers are shooting 51.7 percent from the floor, the fourth best mark in the nation…The Oilers have made more free throws than their opponents have attempted as Findlay has drained 408 compared to the opponents only shooting 400.

Golden Knights
  Gannon hosted its first post-season game since 2004 last Saturday and defeated Ashland 89-70 … the Golden Knights were ranked 10th in the February 26th NABC/Division II national rankings and sixth in the February 27th Great Lakes regional rankings … Saturday’s victory was Gannon’s first post-season win since a 64-59 home victory against Wayne State in the GLIAC Quarterfinals on March 2, 2004 … the Golden Knights have won 13 consecutive post-season home games dating back to the 1987-88 season … Gannon has won 25 games for the fourth time in school history and first time since 1986-87 … only the 1986-87 team which played in the NCAA Division II National title game won more games with a 28-6 record … Gannon shot 71 percent (22-31) and scored 59 points in the second half against Ashland, erasing a four-point halftime deficit … Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) recorded his seventh double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds … Joe Lindsey (Spring Valley, N.Y./Spring Valley) missed his seconddouble-double by one assist with 18 points and nine assists … Vince Mosley (Boynton Beach, Fla./Dillard) missed his third double-double by one rebound with 14 points and nine rebounds … Gannon has shot 50 percent or better in 14 of 28 games this season.

  The GVSU senior class improved to 105-19...GVSU head coach Ric Wesley has an .846 winning percentage, the top winning percentage among all coaches with four years or more...GVSU is 87-9 since the 2005-06 season overall, including a 49-5 record in GLIAC action. Grand Valley State is 60-4 at home under Wesley, including a current school-record 28-game home court winning streak. Wesley has led GVSU to three straight GLIAC North Division titles (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08). GVSU has been known for defense during the Ric Wesley era. GVSU has held 93-of-its-124 opponents under 67 points. 72 opponents have scored less than 60 points and 36 have tallied 50 points or less. The Lakers currently lead the nation in Scoring Defense - 53.5 ppg.; Scoring Margin - 22.6 and Field Goal Percentage Defense - 36.3 percent. GVSU has held 22-of-30 foes under 55 points, including 10 under 50 points...GVSU has held 7-of-his-last-13 opponents under 50 points and prior to the FSU game GVSU had held 15 straight under 58 points.

   The Hillsdale College men’s basketball season came to an end Saturday afternoon in a 63-49 loss to No. 2 Grand Valley in the first round of the 2008 GLIAC Tournament…Junior Tony Gugino was the team’s leading scorer this season, and led the GLIAC in scoring average during the regular season (19.3)…Gugino’s 541 points are the 10th most scored by a player in a single season in the 100-year history of Charger men’s basketball…It’s also the most points scored by a Hillsdale men’s player in a season since 1994-95, when Mike Lake scored 600 points…Gugino blocked a career-high 59 shots this season, giving him 151 for his career, which is third all-time in school history…He needs two blocks next season to move into second place, and 26 to become the school’s career shot blocking leader…Senior Tim Homan was the team’s second-leading scorer this season, and finished his fine career with 1,402 points, which ranks him 14th on Hillsdale’s all-time scoring list…Homan also finished this season as the GLIAC’s leader in 3-pointers made and 3-point field goal percentage…The Chargers returned to the GLIAC Tournament this season after missing the tournament one year ago…Head coach John Tharp’s 14 wins in his first season are the third most by any men’s basketball head coach in his first year in school history…Only Ronald Ekker (25-8 in 1971-72) and Ron Halstead (16-14 in 1982-83) won more games as a first-year head coach..

Lakers
   Lake Superior State, which started out the 2007-08 season 0-7, has a five-game winning streak heading into its first GLIAC semifinal appearance since 1996. The Lakers’ 87-73 GLIAC quarterfinal victory at Michigan Tech on Saturday was theirsecond win over the Huskies in Houghton in six days. Junior forward Tim VanOudheusden (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored a career-high 29 points to lead six LSSU players in double figures, and LSSU shot 70.8 percent from the field in the second half to pull away in that game…The Lakers, who are competing in the GLIAC Tournament for the first time since 2002, are 0-2 this season against semifinal opponent Grand Valley State. They lost 78-61 to GVSU in Sault Ste. Marie on Dec. 1 and dropped an 87-51 decision at GVSU on Feb. 14…VanOudheusden averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game against GVSU during the regular season, while junior center Ryan Kuhl (Rochester, Mich.) contributed 15.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg…LSSU is the only team participating in the GLIAC final four that is not nationally-ranked…The Lakers have an all-time record of 4-2 in the GLIAC Tournament and won the title in 1996.

  Mercyhurst’s 2007-08 season came to a close Saturday with an 87-64 loss in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinals at Findlay. The Lakers finished the season with a 15-13 overall record, marking the third-straight season with a winning record and the fourth time in five years under Gary Manchel. The Lakers also finished with nine GLIAC wins for the third-straight year for the first time in school history and made its third-straight GLIAC Tournament, which is the most consecutive berths in program history. With the loss, however, the Lakers fall to 1-7 all-time in the GLIAC Tournament. Three of those losses have come against Findlay. On Saturday, Findlay scored 51 points in the first half, which was the most allowed by the Lakers in a half all season and the most since allowing 51 to Ohio Valley on Nov. 25, 2006. Terry Smith led the team with 26 points and he also made six 3-pointers. It was his 10th game of 20 or more points and was his second-highest point total of the season behind the 37-point performance against Ashland on Feb. 16. Smith closes his Laker career with 1,378 points, ranking sixth on the all-time scoring list. He also ranks first in career 3-pointers made, career 3-pointers attempted, fourth in steals (196) and ninth in assists (275). T.J. Mathis, Cory Tubo and Luke Handley also made their final appearances in a Laker uniform Saturday. In just two seasons with the Lakers, Mathis totaled 659 points (11.77 ppg) and 113 steals (2.0 per game).

Huskies
  Michigan Tech played in its 12th straight GLIAC Tournament last weekend. The Huskies were defeated by Lake Superior State, ending their season with a 13-14 record. Four seniors wrapped up their careers at Tech including Josh Makela (Ishpeming, Mich./Westwood), Kevin Maloney (Lansing, Mich./Catholic Central), Kyle Pullen (Tustin, Mich./Pine River) and Tim Strom (Marquette, Mich.) . Strom finished his career with 1,118 points - good for 17th all-time at Michigan Tech ... Junior Robby Springborn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) tallied his second career 30-point game vs. LSSU last Saturday (March 1). The 5-11 guard had 31 points at Northwood earlier this season. Springborn and Strom finished for team-high scoring honors with averages of 12.8 points per contest. Fedrick Bowe (Freeport, Bahamas) finished as the team’s top rebounder at 7.0 per game.
