Eagles
The Eagles went 1-1 last week and that was good enough to get them a berth in the GLIAC Tournament for the third consecutive year. AU is the fourth seed from the South Division and the seventh seed in the tourney. AU will play at Gannon. Ashland went 0-2 against the Golden Knights this season, losing at GU, 77-68 and in Ashland, 77-55…AU and Gannon have met once before in the GLIAC postseason. That was in a first-round game in 1997-98 and the Eagles won, 93-83…a year ago, Ashland bowed out of the GLIAC Tournament in the first round, losing at Findlay, 70-54. The Eagles have never advanced beyond the GLIAC semifinals…as of last week, the Eagles were third in the country in free throw percentage (77.5). Ashland was ninth in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (12.4) and 14th in three-pointers per game (9.4)...senior guard Brett Bartlett (LaGrange, OH/Kent State) was 14th in the country in free throw percentage (87.7) and 19th in assist-turnover ratio (2.42)…senior guard Steve Gansey (Olmsted Falls, OH/Cleveland State) was 17th in three-point field goal percentage (45.7)… redshirt freshman center Kale Richardson (Carroll, OH/Bloom-Carroll) recorded his sixth double-double of the season last week when he recorded 21 points and 14 rebounds against Wayne State.

Bulldogs
FSU concluded the season with a 10-19 overall record and a 5-13 GLIAC slate following Saturday’s (Feb. 23) setback versus nationally second-ranked and unbeaten Grand Valley State... The Bulldogs battled the Lakers close for much of the game before dropping a 81-67 decision as GVSU concluded regular-season play with a perfect 30-0 mark. The Bulldogs trailed by only three points with 10:53 left before the Lakers capped off an impressive regular-season run by outscoring FSU 24-13 the rest of the way... The 2,430 fans for Saturday’s game established a modern Jim Wink Arena record as it represented the first sellout in the nine-year history of the facility and came on “Pack The House” night for the rivalry matchup. It was also played in front of the first-ever live television audience from the arena as FSU “filled up the Wink and made history” for the Senior Night and GLIAC regular-season finale doubleheader.

Oilers
The #6 Oilers captured two GLIAC wins to end the regular season, defeating Hillsdale 82-59 on the road and then beating Ashland 90-75 at home…The win over Ashland extended the Oilers home winning streak in regular season games to 58 games…Junior forward Morgan Lewis led the way by averaging 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the two wins…He had his second career double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds against Hillsdale…Against Ashland, junior guard Tyler Evans erupted for a career-high 23 points…Evans hit 8-of-13 shots and 5-of-7 three pointers…All five starters scored in double figures for Findlay in the win over Ashland, marking only the third time this season that they have accomplished that feat.

Golden Knights
Gannon ended the regular season with victories over Tiffin (82-61) and Mercyhurst (68-55) … the Golden Knights were ranked 13th in the February 19th NABC/Division II national rankings and fourth in the February 20th Great Lakes regional rankings … Gannon captured it first outright GLIAC South Division title since 1999-00 … the Golden Knights posted their highest GLIAC winning percentage (15-2, .882) and fewest conference losses since they joined the league in 1995 … Gannon has won 24 games for the first time since the 1989-90 NCAA Elite Eight team went 24-8 … the Golden Knights can become the first Gannon team to win 25 games Saturday since the 1986-87 NCAA National Semifinalist team posted a 28-6 record … Gannon has recorded 24 wins for only the seventh time in the program’s 64-year history … Vince Mosley (Boynton Beach, Fla./Dillard) averaged 19 points and five rebounds in two games last week, hitting 16-of-19 shots for the week.

Grand Valley State has won a school-record 30 straight games. In addition, the 30 straight wins to open a season is the best start for any NCAA college team in the state of Michigan...GVSU has won a school-record 34 straight regular season games and 27 straight at home...GVSU head coach Ric Wesley and his 2008 senior class is now 104-19... Wesley leads all active coaches in the NCAA ranks with an .845 career winning percentage. GVSU is 86-9 since the 2005-06 season overall, including a 49-5 record in GLIAC action...Jason Jamerson averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals as #2 GVSU set league history with a pair of wins. Jamerson hit 15-of-30 from the floor (.500), 5-of-11 from three-point land (.455) and 10-of-11 from the charity stripe (.900)...Jamerson, the all-time leader in 3-pointers made (281) and the fourth all-time leading scorer in GVSU men’s basketball history (1,606), has led GVSU to a GLIAC single-season record 18 wins...GVSU senior center Callistus Eziukwu has 13 double-doubles this season and 34 in his career...Eziukwu ranks first in all-time blocked shots in Laker history and third all-time in NCAA DII history with 310. In addition, Eziukwu ranks fifth in all-time points (1,551), sixth in all-time rebounds (863)...GVSU senior L.J. Kilgore ranks fourth in the country in assist-turnover margin (3.06-1.0)...GVSU’s leads the nation in scoring margin (22.6).

Chargers
The Chargers will face undefeated and second-ranked Grand Valley State on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 3 p.m. in the first round of the 2008 GLIAC Men’s Basketball Tournament…This marks the return of the Chargers to the conference tournament for the first time in two years…Hillsdale hasn’t won a conference tournament game in a decade….The team won the 1995 GLIAC Tournament under former coach Bernie Balikian…The Chargers finished the regular season with a 14-13 record, and was 7-10 in the GLIAC… Junior center Tony Gugino finished the regular season as the GLIAC scoring champ, averaging 19.7 points per game…Gugino and senior Tim Homan have combined to score more than 1,000 points this season (Gugino 531, Homan 475)…Homan is the No. 3 leading scorer in the conference, averaging 17.6 points per game…Gugino ranks sixth in the GLIAC in rebounding (8.0 per game), eighth in field goal percentage (.552) and third in blocked shots (58)… Homan leads the GLIAC in both 3-pointers made and 3-point field goal percentage…HC hasn’t beaten GVSU since the 2003-04 season.

Lakers
LSSU is 5-1 in its last six games and earned its first GLIAC Tournament berth since 2002. The Lakers travel to Houghton for the second time in a week and play the quarterfinal game against the Huskies on Saturday. The teams split during the regular season with MTU winning 83-71 on Feb. 2 in Sault Ste. Marie and LSSU claiming a 59-57 victory in Houghton on Monday. When the Lakers last appeared in the GLIAC Tournament, they were eliminated in the first round by Michigan Tech, 88-71… Junior forward Tim VanOudheusden (Grand Rapids, Mich.) averaged 14.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game to lead the Lakers’ during their last three games. He shot 60 percent from the field and 73 percent at the free-throw line. Junior center Ryan Kuhl (Rochester, Mich.) contributed 13.0 ppg and 8.3 rpg. He notched his fourth double double of the season by totaling 18 points and 12 rebounds against NMU on Feb. 23…Kuhl, who has 1,109 career points, is ranked 16th in the GLIAC in scoring (14.3 ppg), 11th in rebounding (6.7 rpg), 11th in field-goal percentage (.517) and sixth in blocked shots (1.04 bspg).

Lakers
The Lakers dropped their regular season finale 68-55 at Gannon Saturday in the Hammermill Center. It was the second-straight loss to Gannon after winning two in a row in 2006-07... Terry Smith finished with a team-high 15 points, scoring 12 in the second half. It was his 10th-straight game in double figures and 25th in 27 games this season... Despite the loss, Mercyhurst finishes with the regular season with 15 victories, marking the third-straight season and fourth in the last five of at least that many. The nine GLIAC wins also marks the first time in the program’s GLIAC affiliation that it has posted three-straight seasons of at least nine conference wins... Mercyhurst will be making its third GLIAC Tournament appearance in a row and fourth in Gary Manchel’s five-year tenure. The Lakers will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed and play at Findlay, where they have not won since Feb. 18, 1999.

Michigan Tech will host Lake Superior State on Saturday (March 1) in a GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal game. The Huskies have qualified for 11 straight league tournaments and 13 of the last 14. Tech is 19-10 all-time in the GLIAC Tournament with a 1-1 record vs. LSSU … Tech played a pair of two-point games vs. its Upper Peninsula rivals within the last week. It defeated Northern Michigan, 48-46, last Wednesday (Feb. 20) before falling to Lake Superior State, 59-57, last Monday (Feb. 25). The Huskies have been involved in seven games decided by one possession this season and are 5-2 in those contests … Junior Fedrick Bowe (Freeport, Bahamas) set a career high with 15 rebounds vs. Northern Michigan. The 6-5 forward averages a team-best 7.3 boards per game … Robby Springborn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) registered 17 and 11 points in Tech’s two games last week, respectively. He has tallied double figures in 16 outings this season and averages 12.1 points per game.

The Wildcats ended the 2007-08 season with two losses last week…NMU lost at Michigan Tech on Wednesday (46-48) and then Lake Superior defeated the Wildcats at home on Saturday (60-68)…Jake Suardini led the ‘Cats in both games last week as he had 18 points against the Huskies and 21 against the Lakers…Suardini ended the campaign with a team-high 15.9 ppg, 79 assists and 50 steals…Tyler Kazmierkoski was second on the team with 13.0 ppg, led the team in three-pointers with 69 and was second on the team with 4.6 rpg…Kyle Greene led the team with4.7 rpg...Eric Sirrine led the ‘Cats with 22 blocks.

Northwood saw its 2007-08 season come to an end with a pair of losses last week, falling at No. 2 Grand Valley before losing to rival Saginaw Valley at home … NU finishes the year 11-16 overall, 6-12 in the GLIAC … the Timberwolves still had a chance at the GLIAC Tournament heading into the final game of the season, but the loss to SVSU ended the season for NU … junior forward Mark Barnes (Saginaw, Mich.) finishes the season ranked second in the GLIAC in rebounding (9.6 per game) … Barnes is also 19th in scoring in the conference (13.8 ppg) … the Timberwolves will return all but one player (Asen Marchev) for the 2008-09 season.

Saginaw Valley moved its winning streak to four games as they made their late season charge for the GLIAC tournament, with wins over Ferris State (79-66) Thursday and Northwood (70-48) on Saturday night improving their season record to 12-14 and 7-11 in the GLIAC…the win on Saturday gave SVSU a chance to move on to the GLIAC tournament for the first time since 1999 if Michigan Tech could have beaten Lake Superior State on Monday evening…Lawrence Ross (Battle Creek, Mich./Miami, Ohio) scored a game high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the win over Northwood on Saturday…Mario Mackey (Aurora, Colo./Idaho) added 19 points and four rebounds in his last game as a Cardinal…Mackey (17.7) finished the regular season ranked second in the GLIAC in points per game, while Ross (16.6) ranks seventh in the conference…Mike Zuiderveen (Kalamazoo, Mich./KVCC) recorded his tenth double-double of the season against Northwood…Zuiderveen (12.0) currently leads the GLIAC in rebounds…Zuiderveen ranks third (2/24/08) in rebounds per game.

Wayne State concluded the season by snapping its 11-game losing streak with a home court victory over Hillsdale on Saturday … senior Wynn Sarden (Sterling Hts., Mich./Warren Cousino) completed his collegiate career by being the game-high scoring leader in both contests last week as he scored 29 points at Ashland and 27 in the win over the Chargers … sophomore Lendyn Davis (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) recorded a career-high 23 points including a career-best seven free throws made vs. HC … his four triples were one shy of his career high … classmate Larry Edwards (Benton Harbor, Mich.) had a career-high seven assists to only one turnover plus tied a career-best with three steals on Saturday … Sarden was the first player since Mike Brown in 2000-01 to lead the team in points, rebounds and steals in the same season … Davis tied the 10th-best single-season school mark for three-pointers attempted (152) with Art Johnson (1990-91).
