Ashland University
Eagles
  AU went 2-0 on the road last week and has four road victories this season. That’s a major improvement over last season when the Eagles posted just one road win. With wins last week over Northwood and Saginaw Valley, AU improved to 4-3 against the GLIAC North Division…the Eagles have four regular season games remaining, three at home. All three teams AU hosts – Gannon, Mercyhurst and Wayne State – defeated the Eagles earlier this year... AU is 7-3 this year at Kates Gymnasium…with a 65-64 win at Saginaw Valley, AU upped its record to 2-1 in games decided by three points or less this season … junior guard Bret Wacklery (Canton, OH/Canisius) had a season-high 10 assists at Northwood. His previous high in helpers was eight (done twice)…as of last week, AU was fourth in the nation in free throw percentage, 13th in three-point field goals per game and 14th in fewest turnovers per game…senior guard Brett Bartlett (LaGrange, OH/Kent State) is 16th in the nation in free throw percentage and 17th in assist-turnover ratio. Senior guard Steve Gansey (Olmsted Falls, OH/Cleveland State) is 16th nationally in three-point field goal percentage.

Bulldogs
  Ferris State notched its sixth-straight season under head coach Bill Sall with 10 or more wins by virtue of Thursday’s (Feb. 7) 64-59 conference home win over Northern Michigan. The Bulldogs also matched their win total of a season ago by registering their 10th victory this campaign... FSU rallied from a 16-point first half deficit in the win over the Wildcats. The Bulldogs trailed 43-27 with 16:25 to play, but limited the Wildcats to only 16 points the rest of the way... Freshman center Justin Keenan (Grand Rapids/Ottawa Hills) provided the production inside versus NMU with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds... The Bulldogs’ win over Northern Michigan gave FSU its 11th victory against the Wildcats in the last 14 series’ meetings... FSU’s Justin Keenan has reached double-figure scoring in 23 of 25 outings this campaign and has netted six double-double (points & rebounds) efforts. He has also scored 20 points or more eight times this season.

Oilers
  The Oilers, ranked 8th in the nation, captured a pair of GLIAC road wins last week by defeating Saginaw Valley State 77-63 and then topping Northwood 73-53…Junior forward Josh Bostic led the team by averaging 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in the two wins…The win over Northwood marks the seventh consecutive year they have reached the 20 win plateau and gives head coach Ron Niekamp his 17th 20 win season during his 23 years at Findlay…The tenth GLIAC win this season gives Niekamp his tenth double digit win total in the conference in only 11 years of competition…The victory was also Niekamp’s 250th at the NCAA Division II level…Findlay is on pace to break the school record for three-point shooting percentage as they are currently hitting 40.8 percent of their attempts…The previous season-high is 38.3 during the 2004-05 campaign …Niekamp now has 506 career wins at Findlay…The Oilers are currently hitting 52.4 percent of their field goal attempts this season which is on pace to break the school record of 50.2 percent shot during the 2005-06 campaign.

Golden Knights
  Gannon swept a pair of home games against GLIAC South Division opponents last week, defeating Hillsdale (90-75 in ot) and Wayne State (73-47) … the Golden Knights were ranked 10th in the February 5th NABC/Division II national rankings and third in the February 6th Great Lakes regional rankings … Gannon has tied the best 23-game record in school history with a 21-2 mark … only two other Gannon teams in school history have started 21-2 or better and it’s the best 23-game record since 1999-00 … Gannon clinched its first GLIAC quarterfinal home game since 2003-04 with its victory last Thursday against Hillsdale … Joe Lindsey (Spring Valley, N.Y./Spring Valley) scored a career-high 24 points against Hillsdale, including the game-tying free throw with seven seconds left in regulation … the Golden Knights erased a five-point deficit with under two minutes to play by holding the Chargers without a field goal in the final three minutes of regulation and the entire five-minute overtime session … Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a 22 points and 11 rebounds against Hillsdale … Gannon has won eight consecutive overtime games dating back to 2002-03 and improved to 3-0 in overtime games under head coach John Reilly.

Grand Valley State University
Lakers
   Grand Valley State has won a school-record 26 straight games. In addition, the 26 straight wins to open a season is the best start for a DI or DII school in the state of Michigan... GVSU has won a school-record 30 straight regular season games... The last three years GVSU has had winning streaks that have spanned 17 (2005-06), 14 (2006-07) and 26 games (2007-08) under head coach Ric Wesley...Wesley picked up his 100th victory in his career and reached the 100-win mark in just 119 games. Wesley reached the 100-win mark third fastest in DII history and eighth fastest is DI or DII history...Wesley leads all active coaches with three or more years coaching in the NCAA ranks with an .837 winning percentage. GVSU is 82-9 since the 2005-06 season overall, including a 45-5 record in GLIAC action. Grand Valley State is 57-4 at home under Wesley and have won 25 straight games at the GVSU Arena...Grand Valley State captured its third consecutive GLIAC North Division title.

Chargers
   The final regular season two-game trip to Erie, Pa. was not a pleasant one for the Hillsdale College men’s basketball team, as it lost both games by nearly identical scores…The Chargers’ 90-75 overtime loss to Gannon Thursday was the fifth overtime game played by the team this season…Hillsdale is 3-2 in overtime games this season…It was the first time this season the team has allowed 90 or more points in back to back games…Senior Tim Homan hit seven 3-point baskets in Saturday’s loss to Mercyhurst…He has 82 3-pointers made for the season…Junior Tony Gugino scored 20 first-half points on Saturday vs. Mercyhurst, the most he’s scored in a half all season…Hillsdale has two home games remaining this season, the first coming this Thursday vs. Ferris State…FSU is coached by former Charger assistant coach Bill Sall… Hillsdale defeated Ferris State 84-72 in a non-league game back on Nov. 17.

Lakers
  Junior guard Mark Morse (Harbor Springs, Mich.) totaled six three-pointers and 22 points against Finlandia on Saturday to tie season highs in both categories. He was one of only five players who dressed for LSSU during Thursday’s game at Central State and scored 19 points. For the week, he averaged 20.5 points per game, and he shot 60 percent from the field, 67 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent at the free-throw line…Junior forward Tim VanOudheusden (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored a season-high 25 points against Finlandia…LSSU will attempt to avenge a 78-61 early-season home loss to GVSU when the Lakers travel to Allendale on Thursday. VanOudheusden scored 24 points to lead the Lakers in that contest…Morse and sophomore guard Garrett Konuszewski scored 17 points each to lead LSSU to an 85-79 home victory over Ferris State on Dec. 15. LSSU and FSU are among four teams tied for third place in the GLIAC North Division.

Lakers

  The Mercyhurst Lakers continued to roll, winning two crucial home GLIAC games over Wayne State and Hillsdale to extend their winning streak to six games. They picked up the wins in different fashions, holding Wayne State to 50 points and then scoring 90 to outscored Hillsdale, the conference’s highest-scoring team. Prior to the winning streak, the Lakers were 8-10 and now at 14-10, they are four games above .500 for the first time all season. Mercyhurst’s six-game winning streak is its longest since 2003 and the first time they’ve won six-straight GLIAC games since 2003-04. Against Wayne State, Terry Smith scored 20 points, giving him three-straight games of 20 or more and four such performances in his last five outings. In five of Mercyhurst’s last six wins, it has not allowed more than 68 points. The 50 points allowed to Wayne State was the second lowest point total allowed this season, matched only by the 46 give up to Columbia Union on Nov. 18.

Huskies
  Michigan Tech split its final two road games of the regular season and remains in second place in the GLIAC North Division. The Huskies will finish the regular season with four home games … Junior Sean Geary (Marquette, Mich.) scored a career-high 17 points to go with four assists, three rebounds and zero turnovers in a 65-63 victory at Ferris State last Saturday (Feb. 9). The 5-10 point guard has turned up his play a notch over the last four games by averaging 12.3 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds over the span … Senior Tim Strom (Marquette, Mich.) tallied his 14th double digit scoring game of the season at Ferris State with 16 points. The 6-7 forward leads the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game … Junior Fedrick Bowe (Freeport, Bahamas) turned in his fifth double-double of 2007-08 with 13 points and 10 rebounds last Saturday (Feb. 9). The 6-5 forward is averaging 6.9 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per contest … Michigan Tech is 11-1 when leading at halftime, 11-2 when outrebounding its opponent and 10-2 when it holds its opponent to 70 points or fewer.

Wildcats
  NMU will play three of its final four games at the Berry Events Center…First up this week’s games against Northwood and Saginaw Valley State…Last week, the Wildcats went 1-2, a win at home against Northland Baptist and two losses on the road to Ferris State and Grand Valley…Against Northland Baptist, two players recorded double-doubles as Kyle Greene had 13 points and 16 rebounds while Darren Jones had 14 points and 10 rebounds… Mike Polfus poured in a career-high 12 points against the Pioneers… The big three of Jarard Ajami (18), Tyler Kazmierkoski (15) and Jake Suardini (14) led the ‘Cats against Ferris State… Suardini leads the team in scoring with 357 points (15.5 ppg), next is Ajami (13.2 ppg) and Kazmierkoski (12.9 ppg).

Timberwolves
   The Timberwolves went 0-2 last week, falling at home to Ashland and No. 8 Findlay … Northwood is now 10-13 overall, 5-9 in the GLIAC … NU is still tied for third in the North Division at 5-9 overall … shooting was the key to both games last week, as the Timberwolves shot just 35.8 percent for the week (43-112) compared to 55.0 percent for their opponents (61-111) … Mark Barnes (Saginaw, Mich.) led the Timberwolves for the week, averaging 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game … he registered his 10th double-double of the season against Ashland, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds … Tony Marcotullio (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) connected on five of his six 3-point attempts against Ashland … the Timberwolves travel to Northern Michigan Thursday night for an important conference match-up … the two teams are tied in the GLIAC North Division.

Saginaw Valley State University
Cardinals
  The Cardinals dropped two games over the weekend, a 77-63 loss to #8 Findlay on Thursday and a 65-64 heartbreaker to Ashland on Saturday. …Mario Mackey led the Cardinals in scoring (16.5 per contest), he had eight points against #8 Findlay and 25 points against Ashland… Mike Zuiderveen (Kalamazoo, Mich./KVCC) pulled down 19 rebounds against Ashland and currently leads the GLIAC in rebounds per game (12.0), leading the GLIAC by two full rebounds, he is the only players in the GLIAC averaging double digits in rebounds, he also ranks second in the nation (2-03-08) in rebounds…Lawrence Ross (Battle Creek, Mich./Miami, Ohio) ranks tenth in the GLIAC in points per game (15.7), 14th in rebounds per game (5.9) and is second in minutes played (38.33)…Zuiderveen is shooting .586 from the floor on the season, which is the fourth highest percentage in the GLIAC.

Wayne State University
Warriors
   Wayne State has lost eight straight games for the first time since the 1980-81 squad also lost eight consecutive contests … the Warrior defense allowed a season-high 55 percent shooting by an opponent as Gannon made 27-of-49 on Saturday … WSU’s two lowest scoring games this year were both against Gannon (39 on Jan. 24 and 47 on Feb. 9) as well as the two worst shooting contests (33 percent both times) … Wayne State’s two lowest free throw shooting games were both contests last week as the Warriors went a combined 7-for-20 in the two games in Erie … the Warriors play at 29th-ranked California (Pa.) on Wednesday before hosting second-ranked Grand Valley on Saturday … WSU is 3-3 in league home games this year after winning the first three GLIAC contests at the Matthaei.
