Player Of The Week
Jacob Petkac - Ashland
(So, OF, R/R, Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Midpark)
Sophomore outfielder Jacob Petkac has helped Ashland post and 11-5 record and a No. 28 ranking so far this season. He leads the Eagles in batting average (.458), hits (27), runs (20), doubles (9), runs-batted-in (17), and on-base percentage (.553). In a 13-7 victory over Southwest Minnesota on Mar. 10, in Fort Myers, FL, the sophomore went six-for-six at the plate. That ties the school record for hits in a game. The last player to have six safeties in a game was Gaylord Meininger against Wilmington in 1962.
Andre Benjamin - Grand Valley State
(Jr, LHP, Grand Ledge, Mich./Grand Rapids C.C.)
Junior left-hand pitcher Andre Benjamin has appeared in five games this season, started in three and logged an earned-run average of 2.35. He has struck out a team-high 19 batters through 23 innings, while allowing just six walks over that period of time. Benjamin has thrown one complete game and combined for a shutout already this season. He has a perfect 3-0 record and allowed just six earned runs. Benjamin has given up just two extra-base hits, both doubles while holding opponents to an average of .239 in 88 at-bats.
