Ashland University
Eagles
  The Eagles are 7-1 at home so far this season…in a doubleheader sweep of Saginaw Valley State last Saturday, the Eagles scored 32 runs on 29 hits with six homers. Senior shortstop Chris Haycox (Springfield, OH/Springfield North) belted two homers against SVSU. One of his roundtrippers was a grand slam. Haycox has three homers this season. Entering this year, he had one homer in his career…catcher Chase Beatty (Milan, OH/Edison) has a seven-game hitting streak. Beatty blasted his first two homers of the season in the slugfest against SVSU…when Findlay scored 17 runs against the Eagles last Wednesday, it marked the second largest run total by an opponent this season. During the Florida trip Stonehill stopped AU, 21-12. Also, UF’s sweep of Ashland last Wednesday will prevent the Eagles from winning the regular season series between the two schools. Since 2004, AU has won the season series with the Oilers every year…senior outfielder David Quiroga (Toledo, OH/Owens C.C.) is hitting .454 and has a team-high on-base percentage of .722. Quiroga had at least one hit in all four AU games last week…this week, the Eagles go to Erie, PA, for the final time to play Gannon and Mercyhurst with the two schools as league members. Ashland’s record against the Golden Knights is 40-5 (.889) and the Eagles are 32-19 (.627) against the ‘Hurst…junior outfielder Tyson Rowland (Warren, OH/Warren Harding) is 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts this year. In his career, Rowland is 40-for-47 (85.1 percent).

Oilers
  The Oilers finished the week with a 3-1 record after sweeping Ashland and splitting with Wayne State…They are currently 13-3 in the GLIAC, good for second place…Findlay came from behind to win two of their games, winning 4-3 over Ashland when junior Matt Wilson drove home senior George Rohan for the game-winning run on a single in the bottom of the seventh…In the Oilers 4-2 win over Wayne State, senior Jeff Peters hit a two-run, walk-off homerun to give the Oilers the win in the bottom of the ninth…Freshman Ryan Rothenbuhler remained undefeated by going all nine innings for Findlay…He allowed only two runs on seven hits for the victory…Findlay also had their best offensive explosion of the season thus far against Ashland, beating the Eagles 17-4…Findlay pounded out 17 hits in the game…Rohan led the way during the week by hitting .667 for the week with five runs and five RBI’s…He also smacked two homeruns and two doubles during the week…Rohan currently has seven homeruns on the season, one shy of tying the school record for most round trippers in a season…On the year, Rohan is batting .385…He is leading the Oilers in hits (42), triples (3), homeruns (7), RBI’s (32), total bases (80), slugging percentage (.734) and stolen bases (8).

Golden Knights
  Gannon went 2-4 last week, splitting a doubleheader at Mercyhurst before winning one of four at Northwood … Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) recorded his second career shutout with a 1-0 victory at Mercyhurst … it was Gannon’s first 1-0 victory since defeating Saginaw Valley State by that score on March 25, 2005 … Radwan only allowed one Laker to advance past second base … Jonathan Dziomba (Williamsville, N.Y./St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute) led Gannon with a .364 average in six games last week, producing two three-hit games … Gannon is 6-0 when leading after the sixth inning this season … Gannon has already eclipsed last year’s victory total with 18 games left in the regular season … Evan Euler (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) posted a 1.74 ERA in two appearances last week, lowering his team-best season ERA to 4.63.

  Grand Valley State was ranked 10th in latest Collegiate Baseball and NCBWA polls...Grand Valley State will play 21 games in the next 20 days after playing 27 games in the first 51 day of the season (Feb. 24)...Junior 1B/OF Casey Robrahn (Jenison, Mich.) is hitting .447 on the year and .630 in GLIAC action...In addition, Robrahn is hitting .690 in his last seven games (20-for-29) with 11 RBI and 10 runs scored...Robrahn has raised his batting average 103 points in the last seven games...LF Matt Nickels (Novi, Mich.) is hitting .455 in GLIAC action, while OF Pat Radde (Grand Rapids, Mich./FH Central) and 2B Josh Hillyard (Grand Rapids, Mich./Kenowa Hills) are both hitting .417 in GLIAC action. Radde leads the squad in GLIAC play with 20 hits and 16 runs scored...Grand Valley State head baseball coach Steve Lyon is 364-143-1 (.709) at Grand Valley State and needs just two wins to pass Andy Chopp (365-310-2) as the all-time winningest coach in GVSU baseball history. Lyon has 477 wins all-time as a collegiate head coach...The GVSU pitching staff has a 2.85 ERA overall this season and a 2.84 ERA in GLIAC action.

Chargers
  The Hillsdale College baseball team snapped an eight-game losing streak Sunday with a 2-0 win over Mercyhurst…It was the team’s first shutout of the season…Junior pitcher Scott Monterastelli delivered the complete-game shutout, also the first of the season for the Chargers…He leads the pitching staff with three wins this season and is in his first season with the program…Freshman Anthony Giarmo hit his first collegiate home run in the win Sunday also…Hillsdale rescheduled half of its four-game series with Mercyhurst for 2:30 p.m. Monday, due to bad weather in the Hillsdale area Saturday…The Chargers are in the middle of a 16-game, 14-day homestand, which continues Wednesday vs. Tiffin and this weekend vs. Northwood.

Lakers

  After a 1-9 start to conference play, the Lakers have evenly split their last eight conference games, incluing going 3-3 this week in doubleheaders against Gannon and Hillsdale. In the series finale against Hillsdale on April 14, the Lakers scored eight runs, which is the most in any conference game this season and the most since scoring nine runs in a non-conference win over Clarion on March 24—a stretch of 15 games. That game came on the heels of a four-game stretch in which the Lakers scored just six runs total. The also received a standout pitching effort from John Mang, who snapped a streak of four-straight losing decisions. He allowed just one hit and no earned runs. At the plate, Dan Bertolini recorded six hits in the four-game series. The previous day, pitcher Steve Grife suffered his fifth loss of the season despite allowing just two runs and striking out eight. He has received just six runs of support in five losses this season. Earlier in the week, the Lakers split with rival Gannon. The 5-4 win in 10 innings was the team’s first extra-inning game of the season. All four of Gannon’s runs were unearned in the game. The 1-0 Gannon win in game one snapped a streak of 13-consecutive wins by the Lakers over GU.

Timberwolves
   Northwood went 4-3 last week, going 3-3 in conference action … after losing a pair at Saginaw Valley, Northwood took three out of four from Gannon … NU is now 16-13 overall, 4-10 in the GLIAC … Clay Rosette (Hartland, Mich.) drove in 12 runs in the seven games last week … for the season, Rosette has a team-high 39 RBI’s in 29 games played … Matt Toporski (Essexville, Mich.) carried a no-hitter until the final out against Gannon Monday, but the Golden Knights broke up the bid with a double … he finished the game with two hits allowed while earning his third victory of the season … Matt Czajkowski (Plymouth, Mich.) had a big week for the Timberwolves at the plate, batting .550 with six stolen bases … the Timberwolves have just four games remaining at their home field this season – Wednesday against Grand Valley and April 23 against Saginaw Valley … NU will travel to Hillsdale for a weekend series against Hillsdale.

Cardinals
  SVSU finished the week 3-2 to send its overall record to 19-9 on the season and its GLIAC mark to 7-5…the Cardinals defeated Eastern Michigan for the fifth consecutive time on Tuesday by a score of 9-5…Kevin Kerner (Richmond, Mich.) pitched for the first time since March 4 against Eastern and improved to 2-0 on the season with the win…Reed Welker (Toledo, Ohio/St. John’s) smashed two more home runs, sending his league-leading total to eight on the season…Welker also ranks second in the GLIAC in RBI (37) and slugging percentage (.724)…Scott Roy (Mt. Morris, Mich./E.A. Johnson) improved to 6-0 on the season with a win over Northwood…Roy currently leads the GLIAC in wins with six…Roy also ranks in the second in innings pitched (46.0) and ERA (1.96) while ranking third in strikeouts (50)…Andrew Doyle (Flint, Mich./Powers) picked up his second loss of the season against Ashland but still ranks second in the GLAIC in wins (5) and strikeouts (57) while ranking fourth in innings pitched (44.2) and fifth in ERA (2.62) and opponents’ batting average (.233)…Brandon Fanion (Marysville, Mich.) is hitting .359 with two home runs and seven RBI in GLIAC league play…Josh Peterson (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) first in the GLIAC in walks (26), fourth in stolen bases (13) and fifth in on-base percentage (.496)…Max Bell (Goodrich, Mich.) has thrown out ten runners attempting to steal bases, the most of any catcher in the GLIAC…Bell is hitting a team-best .457 with six doubles, one home run and 11 RBI in 12 conference games this season.

Warriors
   Wayne State extended its winning streak to seven games before dropping its first GLIAC contest of the season Saturday at Findlay … the Warriors swept a doubleheader Wednesday at Tiffin by scores of 3-0 and 5-1 … Justin Mazur (Macomb, Mich.) scattered seven hits over six scoreless innings to improve to 4-0 on the year, and Adam Kaminski (Clinton Twp., Mich.) held the Dragons at bay for his second save in game one … Ryan LaPensee (LaSalle, Ont.) collected a career-high four hits in WSU’s 5-1 win in the second game … LaPensee, who had his 10-game hitting streak snapped in Saturday’s finale, raised his batting average from .250 to .366 in that span … Wayne State is 4-10 in non-conference games this season … Saturday’s 8-0 victory at Findlay marked Wayne State’s 17th-straight conference win dating back to 2007 … Matt Cunningham (Gregory, Mich.) was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, matching his career-highs for hits and RBI in a game … Anthony Bass (Trenton, Mich.) tossed his second complete game shutout of the year, scattering three hits and fanning 11 Oilers … WSU had not shut out Findlay since 2001 … Drew Churchward (Ann Arbor, Mich.) collected four of WSU’s seven hits in Saturday’s finale … Michael Wiseman (White Lake, Mich.), who homered in both games Saturday, leads the team with seven multiple-RBI games this season … the Warriors will begin a 13-game homestand Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Concordia before hosting Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday and Grand Valley State this weekend.
