Wayne State Opens a New Multipurpose Indoor Athletic Facilitiy

DETROIT--The Wayne State University Department
of Athletics held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday evening in
conjunction with the opening of the Athletic Multipurpose Indoor
Facility, which is located just north of the Matthaei Tennis Courts
and immediately south of the WSU Baseball Field.
The new facility will have 35,000 square feet of multipurpose
indoor space with a height of 35 feet. Within this area is a
specially built mondo surface with four tennis courts, a 60-yard
sprint track to aid in conditioning for all 15 Warrior sports. This
area will also be used by the baseball and softball teams with
batting cages and giving them the ability to do off-season long
tossing.
In addition, the football squad will have 75 yards of indoor space
for use during winter conditioning with the golf student-athletes
having the ability to hit “long drives.”
The facility also consists of six new offices for Warrior coaches,
men’s and women’s locker rooms, a training room as well
as a baseball locker room.
The Athletic Multipurpose Indoor Facility is completely air
conditioned, and will be used by all 15 Wayne State varsity
athletic programs.
