ORLANDO —
Michigan Tech took home five awards from the National Association
of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) Conference last
week. The Huskies’ athletic department won one gold, two
silver and two bronze awards for its marketing and promotions
efforts in 2010-11.
“Our promotions team had an outstanding season,” said
Jonathan Hamilton, Tech’s athletic marketing coordinator.
“We had a great student corps, and many great staff members
from throughout the athletic department pitched in to help out,
even those who aren’t necessarily responsible for promotions.
The teamwork definitely showed, as we took home five awards this
year, second-most in the nation. It is gratifying to garner more
national prominence for the Huskies.”
A gold award was earned for having the best student
promotion—Pack the Mac night for Greek and residence halls at
the Oct. 12, 2010, hockey game vs. Northern Michigan.
Silver awards were received in the categories of Single-Day
Attendance Promotion (promoting Tech’s first-ever
women’s soccer game) and New-Revenue Generating Idea (the
Football VIP 4-Pack Fundraiser). The bronze awards were in the
categories of Sponsorship Program (WalMart Junior Hockey Night) and
Season Ticket Sales Campaign (Football-Soccer Combination Season
Tickets).
NCAA institutions are divided into three groups based on school
size and conference affiliation. Michigan Tech is in group III.
Awards are given out in 16 different categories.
Michigan Tech won awards in five of the seven categories it
entered. Nationally, only Grand Valley State—which gained
seven awards—had more. Tech has won at least one NACMA award
every year since 2008.
