GVSU Senior Associate AD Lisa Sweany Takes Director of Athletics Post At Armstrong Atlantic

Allendale, Mich. - Armstrong Atlantic State University officials have announced that Lisa M. Sweany, Senior Associate Athletics Director at Grand Valley State, has been named Director of Athletics at Armstrong Atlantic effective July 18. Sweany has spent the last 11 years at Grand Valley State, including the last five as the senior associate athletics director.
Sweany was responsible for budget, personnel and facilities management at Grand Valley State. Her duties have included direct supervision of seven coaches, overseeing game and event operations, as well as management of all athletics personnel. In addition, she coordinated all aspects of compliance and eligibility for more than 500 student athletes.
"We would like to thank Lisa for all that she did for Grand Valley State University and Laker athletics the last 11 years," said GVSU's Director of Athletics, Tim Selgo. "Lisa was a key figure in our athletics department and we wish her well in her new post at Armstrong Atlantic. She is ready to become a successful athletic director and we are proud that she will remain in Division II athletics.
Prior to joining GVSU, Sweany served at Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana, as the athletics facilities director. During her five-year stint at Tri-State, she served in various capacities of increasing responsibility, including assistant basketball coach, head coach of softball and associate athletics director, a positioned she was named to in March 1995.
"There is not an administrator that is more deserving than Lisa Sweany," stated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Commissioner, Dell Robinson. "She was highly valued as a member of our conference governance and committee structure. She was essential in building a foundation to many of our conference championships and enhancing the championship experience."
Sweany is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. From 2010, she served as chair of the NCAA Midwest Regional for Softball, helping to oversee rankings in the region. Since 2008, she has served as second vice president and convention planning chair for the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association, where she was a founding board member.
"I had such an incredible experience at Grand Valley State University," said Sweany. "I had the opportunity to work with and meet so many great people the last 11 years. I want to thank everyone associated with Grand Valley State and Laker athletics for giving me an opportunity to grow as a professional and as a person."
